Portishead Town ended 2025 on a high with a hard-fought 2–1 victory away at Tavistock, a result that cements their position in second place in the Southern League Division One South.
Missing influential captain Kyle Egan through injury, Portishead handed a first league start of the season to Callum Eastwood and welcomed debutant goalkeeper Jakob Glover, on loan from Weston-super-Mare.
On a challenging surface, Tavistock began brightly, creating early chances through Ryan White and a dangerous corner that tested the visitors’ defence. Portishead responded with efforts from Ethan Feltham and Hamish Hurst. Jakob Glover denied Thomas Chastey from distance, with a good save, but neither side could take control in a scrappy opening period.
The breakthrough came in the 35th minute when Feltham raced clear and was brought down by Tavistock keeper Jack Arthur. Feltham’s penalty was saved, but the striker reacted quickest to convert the rebound and give Portishead the lead.
Buoyed by the opener, the visitors produced their best football of the game and doubled their advantage before the interval. A neat move involving Hurst and Jack Thorne, led to Mitch Osmond playing a sublime ball to release Feltham, who finished clinically for his 18th goal of the season in all competitions.
Portishead managed the second half well, with Ollie Woodhouse and Hurst marshalling a resolute defence. Tavistock enjoyed plenty of possession but rarely troubled Glover, while Portishead threatened sporadically through Feltham and substitute Jaden Neale.
Late drama arrived in stoppage time when Henry Donovan pulled one back for the hosts, but Portishead held firm to secure a vital win.
The victory caps a remarkable year for Portishead, who claimed a league and cup double in 2025 and now look firmly established at this level. They begin 2026 at home to Bashley.
