Portishead Town will compete in the final of the Somerset FA Premier Cup tonight, for the first time in their history. They will come up against Southern League Division One South champions Frome Town.
Posset come into the game in great form, unbeaten in all competitions in 13 games. Saturday’s 4-0 victory over previously second placed Malvern Town was a statement of intent, ahead of the Play-offs to come. With 108 goals Posset are the league’s top scorers, but Frome are one of the few sides to keep Portishead out, when the sides drew 0-0 at Bristol Road earlier in the season.
Frome have raced to the league title, amassing 102 points, overcoming nearly all before them. Before Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Melksham the Robins had gone 31 games unbeaten. They have also had previous success in this competition, having competed in the final of the Premier Cup six times and have won it outright three times, and shared it once. They were runners up as recently as last season, when they lost 1-0 to Weston-Super-Mare.
