Last Thursday marked a significant milestone for Shannon Holloway as she led Portishead Town onto the pitch for their match against Exeter City—her 200th appearance for the club. This remarkable achievement is a testament to her loyalty, dedication, and enduring impact on the team. To honour this occasion, a special presentation was made ahead of Sunday’s league clash against Moneyfields.


Shannon’s journey with Portishead began in the 2013/14 season, as recalled by Chip Wright, the club’s current Director of Ladies Football and the manager who gave her her debut:

“I remember meeting Shannon and her family in a car park in Congresbury. We were short on players for our opening match against Weston Mendip, so we signed Shannon along with sisters, Taylor and Leanne Gainey, just before kick-off. Although we lost 6–1, Shannon scored our only goal—the first of many. She later represented Northern Ireland at the U19 level in European competition. She has been an excellent player to manage over the years, and she’s grown into a first class captain, both on and off the pitch. Her dedication to training and fitness has resulted in an almost ever-present record over the seasons. To achieve 200 appearances for one team is a tremendous milestone. Well done, Shannon.”

Current manager Chris Robson also shared his admiration:

“It’s been an absolute pleasure working with Shannon in my various roles at the club over the past five years. You will not find anyone that epitomises more what it means to be a Posset. Her drive, passion, and hunger to grow and improve, and pride in the shirt are why people like me are involved in football. To reach 200 appearances is an incredible achievement and one that deserves recognition—not just for her loyalty to the club, but for her consistency over the years, as there are over 120 goals to go with those appearances. It hasn’t always been smooth sailing, there has been a time or two where we have butted heads, had a difference of opinion or demanded more of one another – but that’s another one of the beauties of Shan – she’s honest, speaks her mind and will hold everyone to account. Coming up through the English football pyramid with the club Shan is also an inspiration for the hundreds of girls currently in our club and a perfect role model for them to look up to and aspire to. I couldn’t be more proud of her, and hope she reaches 200 more!”

With 201 appearances and 127 goals for Portishead Town, Shannon Holloway continues to be a cornerstone of the club. Congratulations, Shan!
